Myrica pensylvanica
Native to North America
STATE DISTRIBUTION (USDA): CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT
Dense deciduous shrub ranging from 5 to 10 feet tall, with a 5 to 10-foot spread. Northern Bayberry is attractive to birds mainly for the waxy gray berries a pollinated female plant produces in late summer - they are an absolute favorite of the Yellow-Rumped Warbler. The thickness of the Bayberry Shrub makes it a strong candidate for providing shelter and nesting options for ground dwelling birds.
