American Elderberry Identification and Relationship with Birds

One of the best bird attracting plants in all of North America, Elderberry is a fantastic choice for your yard. This deciduous shrub ranges from 5 to 12 feet tall, with what is usually a 10-foot spread. Elderberry flowers bloom in spring (which attract insects) and produces clumps of berries in late summer to early fall (which attract an outrageous number of birds). The shrubby nature of Elderberry also makes it a suitable nesting location for some birds. Due to its manageable size and bird attracting prowess Elderberry is a must for those serious about attracting birds.
