Mealworms are the larvae form of the darkling beetle, they have a worm-like shape and are attractive to many species of bird. Mealworms, which are incredibly nutritious (for birds), can be purchased living or dried. Birds seem to prefer living mealworms but will eat dried ones much the same, Eastern Bluebirds in particular like to munch on mealworms.
