New York Ironweed - Vernonia noveboracensis

Herbaceous perennial ranging from 4 to 6 feet in height, New York Ironweed blooms purple flower clusters from late summer to early fall. The nectar rich clusters are attractive to insects, which in turn attract insectivorous birds. The seeds of New York Ironweed are attractive to birds, including the Black-Capped Chickadee.
